LowPro™ – Billet Intake Manifold

Excellence Through Engineering

Frankenstein had no plans to develop a new intake manifold because the category was already cluttered. But word on the street was persistent, intake manifolds made to fit under the hood of late model Camaros® and Corvettes® either drained power or popped like a bag of corn chips. Frankenstein customers were particularly vocal because they generally run 1000+ horsepower, exceeding the capabilities of available intake manifolds that presented issues such as low torque, limited power and even catastrophic failures.

Frankenstein evaluated many aftermarket intake manifolds over the coming months and discovered several suffered from insufficient plenum volume. Others had inadequate runners to preserve torque, or such significant variations in cylinder distribution that tuning was like playing duck-duck-goose. At this point Chris Frank gave the directive to develop a new intake manifold.

Fitting the LowPro™ under the hood of late model Camaros® and Corvettes® was the goal of LowPro™ which presented a major engineering  constraint. A tight space is at odds with adequate plenum volume and runners in order to feed engine displacement. Restricted air space of smaller plenums starved efficiency at higher rpm and risked generating excessive heat within the intake. Further analysis revealed smaller plenums generated interference waves between cylinders that reduces resonance charging and contributes to variation in cylinder to cylinder distribution.

Perplexed but undeterred, Jesse, our lead engineer, determined critical objectives that had to be achieved by the new LowPro™.

  1. Fit under the hood of late model Camaros® and Corvettes®.
  2. Maximum plenum volume to feed large displacement engines.
  3. Volumetric efficiency through optimum resonance charging.
  4. Innovative runner design to improve both torque and high peak rpm.
  5. Remove all barriers to using power adders.

BREATH OF FRESH INSANITY

Reactive Airflow Modeling

Jesse came up with a frustum geometry for the LowPro™ plenum to feed engine displacement. The unique geometry achieved desired volumetric flows, which was a major breakthrough, but it also added numerous complications to runner design. Hundreds of hours had to be invested to design short intake runners capable of producing the desired pressure profiles for optimal resonance charging. The runner shape, size and taper took months of CFD and Finite Element Analysis before designs could be prototyped, which were further refined and validated in real world testing.

The LowPro™ achieved perfect marks in several areas:

  1. More horsepower throughout the rpm range of any aftermarket intake with short runners.
  2. Greater torque mid to high rpms.
  3. Optimal runner pressure achieved through unique shape, taper rate and tuner radius relative to runner length.
  4. Less than 1% variation in cylinder to cylinder distribution. The LowPro™ design eliminated interference waves to ensure maximum resonance charging and combustion efficiency.
  5. Precise tuning: the intense scrutiny to performance elements ensure uniform power to all cylinders.
  6. Throttle body orientation near OEM location.

LowPro™ performance characteristics

  1. Excellent throttle response for exceptional drivability.
  2. Most tuner friendly intake on the market due to ideal cylinder to cylinder distribution.
  3. Maximum performance capabilities from power adder combinations.
  4. Dyno tested to over 2000 horsepower.
